Revival Deluxe Edition Vol 1 HC

Oh my god! Thank you Tim Seeley! Thanks so much for creating a muslim character who isn't a terrorist!! Although that shouldn't be my first thought and comment on this awesome series, but I had to mention it as it was totally unexpected.

Anyway Revival, a new series written by Tim Seeley and drawn by Mike Norton (who is awesome by the way), about what happens when a person dies comes back to life, NOT as a zombie but, real, breathing, "human". Back to how they were before they passed on. A great premise for a horror series I totally missed. Again found by chance whilst browsing, with Tim's name on it, and a nice deluxe hard cover release, it wasn't hard not to get it. And I'm so glad i did.

The story moves at a nice pace, cool little subplots that you know are going to be part of a bigger story and drawn masterfully by Mike Norton. Definitely going to be looking for more of his work.

Love the characters Tim has created from sisters Dana and Em, Lester, May and of course Ibrahim. By the way Dana Cypress is probably one of the coolest names ever. After Dana, Ibrahim is my favourite, has some great dialogue and I so hope him and Dana get it together for real, much to the disappointment of Dana's Dad the Sheriff no less!

Trying to confine the "Revival" of the dead within the town of Wasau, dealing with the unusual behaviour of the revivers and trying to understand what the hell is actually happening, Tim has crafted a neat story here which kept me hooked since the opening page. Really interested to see how things progress, especially with Em, who was murdered but now as a reviver appears to be some kind of super heroine. She has some cool action scenes, and I wished Dana, the cop(!), did have the same too.

I loved Tim's Hack/Slash, which I'm still hoping will be re-released in hard cover one day, and Revival has a similar kind of vibe with it's atmosphere, gore, humour and suspense. Mike's art is gorgeous and complements the story so well. The horror is done perfectly and characters emotions come through naturally with the script.

The hard cover is over sized, glued binding, no dust jacket which is no bad thing at all as Jenny Frisons cover looks awesome direct on the hard back cover. Pages lay flat with little or no gutter loss. Usual extras with various pin ups, script, some cool bonus ads from the Revivers, and the highlight for me all of Jenny Frisons AWESOME variant covers.

So looking forward to the next volume out later this year and so glad published in this format, Image strike gold again and I'm really digging their line of stories they pumping out. Awesome and on the shelf it goes!

Stumptown Volume 1 HC Review

Okay so totally bought this on a whim. I actually saw it on someone's book shelf on a forum, and looked it up. Heard great things about Greg Rucka, love a good a crime story, so picked it up.

Dex Parios, aww man, I think I'm in love! Right from the start I loved her personality and her wisecracks, giving a breath of fresh air to the genre.

Story wise, fairly straightforward who and why kidnapping thriller, nothing in all honestly going to blow your mind away, but entertaining none the less, and that is purely due to Dex. I simply loved her on the pages!

Never heard of Matthew Southworth before but his art totally complemented the story. Dirty art but the emotions are there, a few inconsistencies/ bloopers but nothing major at all and in no way detracting from the story. Some great two page spreads, and detailed backgrounds.

The book itself is presented nicely in its oversized trim, matt dust jacket, printed hard cover and sewn binding. Just perfect for the bookshelf! Also like the nice little bonus feature of how they marketed the book, wouldn't mind that t-shirt myself!

So all in all, pleased with the buy, will be picking up volume 2 in due course, and will be definitely hoping Greg carries on with the character of Dex, as I'm still in love with her. On the shelf you go!

Some great 2 page spreads

I love her flirting!
